The Joint Program
The Global Health Service Partnership is a public-private collaboration between Seed Global Health and the Peace Corps. Established in 2012, the Partnership is a novel federal program addressing vast shortages of health professionals in many parts of the world.
The Partnership engages US medical and nursing educators to meet teaching and training needs identified within resource-limited countries. The program’s goal is to contribute to increasing clinical care capacity and to growing stronger health sectors by deploying medical and nursing educators. The Partnership is committed to training and capacity building, planting the seeds for a positive and lasting impact on global health care delivery.
In the launch year 2012-2013, the GHSP is piloting the program by placing 36 health professionals in training institutions in each of three partner countries: Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. The physician volunteers include board eligible and board certified doctors in core specialties and nursing volunteers who have completed a BNS/MPH, MSN, NP, DRN, or PHD and have a minimum number of three years of both clinical and teaching experience. GHSP plans to scale up deployment to additional countries and disciplines in subsequent years. The first class of volunteers is deploying in July 2013 to correspond with the academic year of the partner countries.
